Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the final set of molars to emerge, generally in your late teens to early twenties. Sometimes your wisdom teeth emerge and have enough room to grow in naturally.

Common Problem: Impacted Wisdom Teeth

For most, wisdom teeth cause problems and are often impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth often come in at an angle through the gum line. Coming in unevenly can cause pain or the tooth may only emerge partially causing structural damage to the jaw and other teeth. This scenario can also provide a place for bacteria to gather since the tooth is only partially emerged and due to its hard to reach location.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Due to these potential problems, most dentists find it necessary to remove impacted wisdom teeth so that larger problems do not arise. Routine x-rays along with regular dental exams can reveal if you will need to have your wisdom teeth removed.
