Unlike many dentists in the community, Dr. Palani is skilled in both surgical implant placement and the tooth restoration using crown and bridgework. He is one of few dental implant dentists in the area to have attained Fellowship status with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. This is a significant advantage for the patient who requires not only restoration of natural function, but also a beautiful cosmetic result.

Why Dental Implants?

Dental implant surgery replaces missing tooth roots, and forms a stable foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like your natural teeth. Dental implants also preserve the remaining bone by providing the stimulation previously provided by the natural tooth roots. The preferred method of tooth replacement has become dental implant treatment.

Dentures vs Implant Supported Dentures

Invest In Dental Implants

While high-tech in nature, dental implants are actually more tooth-saving than traditional bridgework, since implants do not rely on neighboring teeth for support.

With dental implants it is not necessary to grind down the adjacent teeth for a bridge, or secure a partial denture to adjacent teeth with clasps which can cause tooth loosening. Implant-supported replacement teeth spare patients many of the disadvantages of traditional false teeth.

Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling that you may forget you ever lost a tooth. You know that your confidence about your teeth affects how you feel about yourself, both personally and professionally. Perhaps you hide your smile because of spaces from missing teeth. Maybe your dentures don't feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you are missing one or more teeth and would like to smile, speak and eat again with comfort and confidence, there is good news! Dental implants are teeth that can look and feel just like your own! Under proper conditions, such as placement by an experienced and skilled surgeon and diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants can permanently replace missing teeth. Without altering any additional teeth the new tooth makes dental implants far better than alternatives like bridges.

Dental Implant Process

The implant process is performed over a few months.

Insert the Base

The base is prepared by removing the decayed tooth and repairing any bone damage, then the actual implant needs to be installed. An incision in the gum is made and a portion of bone is removed, then the implant screw is installed. More than one implant can be placed at once. After the implant(s) are installed the gums are sutured.

Healing Time

It takes anywhere from 3 to 6 months for your mouth to heal. During the healing time the jaw bone will actually form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. You can have a temporary crown installed on the base during the healing process. This will allow you to eat, speak and smile normally.

Attach the Crown

Once the area has healed, it is time to place an abutment on the implant. This abutment will be the base for the permanent tooth (crown). An impression is taken of the abutment which is used to make the crown. The lab creates the crown that is affixed to the abutment. The implant will look and feel like one of your own teeth and your smile will look like you always wanted it to.
